What is the Alexander Technique?
The Alexander Technique is a learned method of body consciousness that helps students perform with greater ease, improve their breathing, and manage stress. Often studied by musicians, dancers, and actors, benefits of Alexander Technique can extend to everyone, including people who work for hours at a computer and often experience neck and back pain.
What happens during a lesson?
It is notoriously difficult to describe the Alexander Technique in words. The best way to begin to understand is to try a lesson. We can say that the teacher works with the student to change the way the student uses their body - but that is rather vague. Mostly you will be standing, sitting and walking around while the teacher gives you verbal instructions and gently touches your head, neck, and back.
